<p>This was our first child, so we were both ecstatic. And I couldn&#8217;t be any more proud of our daughter!</p>
<p>But along with all the excitement&#8230;came a pretty embarrassing side effect.</p>
<p>Kara had those normal first trimester cravings. But she was still safely gaining weight&#8230;both her and the baby were healthy as can be, at every check-up we had.</p>
<p>&#8230;but here&#8217;s the problem.</p>
<p>No one was measuring MY weight gain!</p>
<p>Month after month went by. And slowly, but surely, that dreaded belly fat was coming back with a vengeance.</p>
<p>SINCE we were heading into winter, my clothes easily hid my belly fat.</p>
<p>And the excuses were there to match my weight gain.<br />

<p>&#8230;but I let my guard down. My portions increased. Those &#8220;pregnancy cravings&#8221; suddenly became my own&#8230;and the weight came on slowly, but surely. You know it&#8217;s bad when the woman at the Ice Cream store asks if your wife is &#8220;having the usual&#8221; – we made a few too many stops there!</p>
<p>Heck, I even cut down on workout time!! Kara was understandably tired through a lot of her pregnancy.</p>
<p>And I felt sucked right into it – on one hand I&#8217;m trying to be Mr. Supportive and help her with everything she needed. On the other hand, I was hurting myself by doing so. And it was no one&#8217;s fault but my own.</p>
<p>This picture tells the exact story&#8230;less than one year earlier I had finished the Ironman and now I&#8217;m 20 lbs heavier than the day of the race!</p>
